The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards, the continent’s foremost platform celebrating corporate sustainability and social responsibility, has officially opened its call for entries for the 19th edition. For nearly two decades, The SERAS has championed bold changemakers, groundbreaking initiatives, and organizations driving Africa’s sustainable transformation.
The theme for this year’s edition is “Sustainability 2.0: Innovating for Impact and Inclusive Growth,” underscoring the need for organizations to move beyond one-off initiatives and integrate sustainability into their core strategies. It also addresses growing concerns about greenwashing, urging companies to focus on real impact over mere narratives.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Mrs. Mary Ephraim-Egbas, Executive Director at TruCSR and Chairperson of The SERAS Local Organizing Committee, emphasized the importance of the awards:
“As we mark The SERAS’ 19th anniversary, it’s not just a milestone of longevity but one of meaningful impact. For 18 years, we’ve inspired a shift in corporate responsibility thinking, encouraged bold action, and contributed to aligning Africa’s private and public sectors with global ESG standards. This award has become the benchmark for sustainability excellence.”
Since its inception, The SERAS has attracted participation from over 5,300 organizations spanning 27 African countries, honoring achievements across critical areas such as circular economy, climate action, environmental stewardship, water and sanitation, stakeholder engagement, gender equality, food security, financial inclusion, education, health, workplace practices, poverty alleviation, innovation, rural inclusion, and supply chain management.
The awards also recognize excellence in partnerships, infrastructure development, transparency and reporting, as well as outstanding contributions from non-profits, social enterprises, and media organizations reporting on sustainability through electronic, print, and online platforms.
The highest honor, The Most Responsible Organization in Africa, was awarded to Zenith Bank in 2024, with NNPC Foundation, AbInBev, and Naspers & Prosus placing second, third, and fourth respectively out of 267 entries.
