AREWA24, the premier Hausa-language family entertainment television network and studio serving Nigeria and West Africa, has named Celestine Umeibe as its new Chief Executive Officer in its first leadership change in more than ten years.
Umeibe, who currently serves as Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, will take over the helm from long-time CEO Jacob Arback. Arback will transition into the newly created role of Executive Vice Chairman, continuing to play a strategic role in the company’s leadership. Umeibe will also maintain oversight of commercial sales operations.
Reflecting on the transition, Umeibe praised his predecessor’s impact, saying, “Jacob Arback was instrumental to the growth and resilience of AREWA24 over the past decade. His inclusive leadership guided the company through the difficult early stages that challenge many start-ups in this region. His new role as Executive Vice Chairman is a fitting recognition of his efforts and ongoing value to the business.”
Arback, who has worked side-by-side with Umeibe since the channel’s launch in 2014, expressed full confidence in his successor. “Celestine is the ideal leader for AREWA24’s next era of growth and impact. His leadership skills, deep industry knowledge, and branding expertise made him the natural choice for our board. I’m eager to see how the company evolves under his direction,” he said.
Umeibe brings over a decade of experience within AREWA24, as well as a solid background in media and commercial roles at StarTimes and TVC. His mandate will include steering the company through an evolving media environment by combining innovative content strategies with new technologies and revenue models. His goal is to position AREWA24 among the leading Pan-African media and production companies.
